A system of runners stationed at rest houses known as tambos sped messages along the roadways, much like the Pony Express mail of the old American West. The Inka in his empire’s capital at Cusco could receive news from far away Quito as rapidly as a letter crosses between the two cities in today’s mail. As remarkable as this highway system was in the days when it was built, used and maintained, it is an astounding testimony to its construction that so many segments remain serviceable today, after half a millennium of neglect. Clearly the Inka highway system ranks as one of the greatest engineering achievements of pre-industrial man. Trekkers of the Inka Trail, be it the well-known portion leading to Machu Picchu, or lesser-visited segments, are privileged to make use of an archeological treasure, as well as to partake of scenes of surpassing beauty. Care for the trail: don’t abuse it in ways that promote loosening or erosion of the stonework. Care for the beauty of the landscape: don’t leave trash or waste behind.

The fertile valley of the Urubamba river, also called the Vilacanota, snakes its way through the old Inca providence of antisuyo, an area which the Incas valued greatly. There, beside this tributary of de amazon, they built their retreats, palaces and sacred places: the fortress of Ollantaytambo(clinig to the steep sides of the river´s),Pisac with its Inca canal, 3Km long, its imposing terraces and, of course, the once - lost Machu Pichu.

Urumbamba means ´place ofthe bugs or spiders´but the area is called the proliferation of ruins. yet, some do suggest the valley is sacred because its was Cuscco´s granary, and others becauseit is connected with the sun adn sky. (Howerer, There´s no question it was very importand to the Incas, And previosly unknown carving were uncovered in the valley in march 200). Onequechua legend says that after the sun sets in the evening it pases through the underworld beneat the Urubamba where it drinks the chill water to refresh itself before emergin at dawn. Another legend says that the Urubamba is theearthly mirror of the celestial river, the Milky Way, and that water flows from one into the other.

Cusco. Every year, people celebrated in this place the Inti Raymi or Sun Festivity; and this was also the place in where Francisco Pizarro proclaimed the conquest of Cusco. With the Spaniards arrival, the square was surrounded by stone arches that even today embellish it. (Centre of the city).

Cradle of legendary feats, the Main Square of Cusco was called “Huacaypata” or “Square of the Warrior” during the time of the Incas. It reminds us of times when it was a significant ceremonial place where, every year, they carried out the spectacular celebration of Inti Raymi or “Sun Festivity”. It was the place where Francisco Pizarro, together with his Spanish entourage, proclaimed the conquest of Cusco, or the setting in where the Indigenous caudillo Tupac Amaru was executed.

The square was transformed with the Spaniards arrival. The stone arches, as well as the constructions that even today surround the square, were built during that period. It is surrounded by a beautiful arcade that was constructed during the conquest. In this place are also located the churches of the Cathedral and the Society of Jesus, which make up a real tourist temptation.

Their architectonic wealth and the colorful one of their streets, their clothes and their inhabitants turns it a small jewel that does not have to be let visit. For many, it is only one city of step or lodging to visit Machu Picchu, but really it is much more. It is worth the trouble, mainly, to take a walk by the district of San Blas, where they are the stores of the craftsmen. That yes, with patience because the height makes our steps heavier than customary, and because we will find several hills in our route. He is recommendable, when arriving, to take kills of cocaine to move away altitude sickness and to take with calm the first hours is accustomed. From there, already you can cross the city, the small factories of crafts (there is one wonderful one in the Avenue of the Sun), to know the dances traditional

The city of PUNO is in a beautiful bay and between hills and there before you MORE HIGH LAKE OF THE WORLD. Join very important legends of the Inca culture, it is said that a foam bubbling exited the first Inca Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, sons of the sun god, which chose the site because it is pure and food.

The mandate of his father was found the Inca empire to do so should FIND A PLACE where to sink the small bar (so stick gold), which gave the sun god, they carry out the mandate they were seeking the chosen location and small bar sank in Cusco, known as the capital of the Incan Empire.

The lake has a lot of islands They include: “Taquile, an island where the residents made their customs tourist trade, with lodgings, keeping everything as if time had not passed and selling it as a tourist experience, is beautiful, as they arrive and make you ceremony, they teach you their dances, dress where cook, where their animals, like cultivating, harvesting and, as spinning and weaving, their rites absolutely everything, plus you can bring memories.

The other is the island that highlights what Uros, is built on the lake, but do not create it CONSTRUIDA with reeds, and people built their homes on top when this there, feeling that moves a little, the people should continue putting the reeds, ever.
Something more, are Chulpas of Sillustani, belonging to the Tiahuanaco culture, is a pre-Inca culture, it PUNO between development and the part adjacent to our sister country BOLIVIA. She also leave us utensils, huacos, tissues found, it constructs a tubular and high, known as Chulpas, were said to have been places where the dead were buried, others hypothesize that were places to store food, and others say it was more a ceremonial center, but the truth is that arrive and you see some things there in the middle of everything, and very well-built giant rock to rock. The mummies they found at the site are in the museum site.

Q The time I recommend to hear Puno is in the months of January and March, because there are many parties with dancing costume contests remember that Puno is the capital of the world and folkloric dances are very beautiful and interesting as “morenada”, “King caporal “,” Cow Cow “(in this dance and the ladies are 50 polleras, are like long skirts with pleats so dance when you see many colors).
Also at this time makes it less cold, but always makes EYE cold so you must be cherished.
